UCIN Organization Pillars

The activities of Uplift Children In Need are anchored on seven major pillars [PEEDSCF] that seeks to meet the needs of needy children so that they can grow into mature responsible adults.

PROVIDE

Our objective is to ensure that the less fortunate children who come from struggling families have access to basic needs. This is made possible by having home visits after a thorough search and identification of these families by our team in collaboration with local elders and social workers in these locations.

Part of being a person is about helping others

EMPOWER

Feeding needy children is part of our mission but empowering these families for a better tomorrow is our core mandate. The organization team does a follow-up of these families in order to come up with a more sustainable way of ensuring that the children tomorrow is catered for through empowerment programs to these families that are able to generate income. Such programs that are carried by the organization include:-

  • Giving farming seeds to the families that have lands to cultivate
  • Giving fertilizers
  • Chicken farming
  • Goat farming for milk production

For the families that do not have land to farm, we ensure that we setup a small medium business enterprise like kiosks or vegetable selling joints commonly referred to as “vibanda or kiosks” of their choice after a though training on how to keep a successful business running. The training is carried out by our team mostly on weekends.

DEFEND

The organization is steered by advocates of children rights and the objective of being at the fore front in defending children is helping these children get access to justice through legal service and advice at no fee (Pro bono services) and ensuring that children are well informed of their legal and constitutional rights. The organization has a panel of qualified advocates of the high court of Kenya who review the cases and give their input in ensuring the children in need of these services get justice.

The organization advocates for healthy, quality education and protection of all vulnerable children giving them priority in all our programs.

As an organization, education is not limited to identifying a child that need to be enrolled to a school and paying the tuition fee, we are a strong believer of good and quality education should be available to all children no matter the race, gender and the region they come from and thus why our team take time to identify the best schools around for all our children, from day schools to boarding schools. A healthy education is one that ensures it nurtures a child both physically, mentally, emotional and socially to become an important person in the community and forge to a better future.

We advocate for inclusive, healthy and quality education for all that promote lifelong learning to children. Education that will be key in the wholesome development of a child, both physically, emotional and mentally without the children growing up having missed important life guide steps.

Education is the key that will allow many other Sustainable Development Goals to be achieved. When vulnerable children are able to get quality education they can break from the cycle of poverty and become great people in the society. Education therefore helps to reduce inequalities and to reach gender equality. It also empowers people everywhere to live more healthy and sustainable lives. Education is also crucial to raising broad-mindedness between people and contributes to more peaceful societies.

We live in a society where women and girls are access to education faces a lot of handles and little support. About a third of countries in the developing regions have not achieved gender parity in primary education and secondary education. We have cases where children from vulnerable families afford to only attend free government primary school where they no fee and once they are through with the primary school level, they  drops out from  continuing with their secondary immediately because they cannot afford the fee or uniforms needed. UCIN organization ensures that the issue of gender equality when sponsoring the vulnerable children in key and both girls and boys are considered equal.

SUPPORT

The objective is to ensure that the vulnerable children have a sustainable source of income that will keep them moving forward for a better tomorrow. The organization has programs that run in families that are struggling to raise their children, for example offering knitting tools to mothers who make nice sweaters, caps, baby socks, gloves for sale during market days that mostly takes places on Weekends as per the location set dates.

It is not enough to help the feeble up, but to support them after

EDUCATION

More than half of children that have not enrolled in school live in sub-Saharan Africa, which makes it the region with the largest number of out-of-school children in the world. And this region has a very young population so it will have to provide basic education to a large population.(UN report on education for sustainable development).

The organization objective on playing its part in reducing the number of out of school children is made possible by helping several children access basic, primary and secondary, education for children who are under the organization’s care. The children are given shelter, clothing, food and school necessities including books, school fees and any other requirement that the child needs to have quality education that nurtures a child’s growth holistically like any other able children. We have children who were sponsored by the organization all through primary school and are currently pursuing their secondary school education. This has been made possible by generous contributions from our partners and well-wishers.

COUNSELLING AND MOTIVATIONAL TALK SESSIONS

Vulnerable children go through “low seasons” where at times they feel so lonely and alone. The organization ensure that it keeps tabs and close contact with all the children by giving counselling and talk session where the children express their fears, worries or doubts and open up to our team that are keen to listen and offer guidance and life skills. A follow-up on children is a priority to the organization in order to ensure that these children have a bright future. These session are followed with children bonding session, games and dancing together with talent presentation sessions where the best art is recognized and awarded.
